Call for papers
“Questioning the Space of Modernity: Informality and the City” conference

BACKGROUND

Critics have observed a rise of entrepreneurial urbanization in different Asian cities since the late 1990s. Along this growth trajectory, we have also witnessed a great collection of urban informality, from street vending, squatter housing to unregistered manufacturing, that has formed the backbone of Asian economic modernization. Given that international scholars have discovered a newfound interest of urban informality in both developing and developed countries, the Department of Landscape Architecture of Fu Jen Catholic University wants to organize an interdisciplinary conference—Questioning the Space of Modernity: Informality and the City—addressing the pressing issues of informal urbanism and its influence on urban development process in various geopolitical contexts.
